Broken Device Information and Scheduling
Is your device not working properly and you need some help? Go through the steps below:
FIRST – Re-start your device. This fixes 90% of the problems. A hard re-start is usually the best option. To do a hard restart, hold the power button for 45 seconds. It will re-boot your device.
DEVICE ISN’T TURNING ON
- First check your battery. Is your device charged. If it is not charged, charge your device.
- If you didn’t bring a charger, borrow a charger from a classmate and remember to bring it next time.
- Chargers will NOT be leant out to you in the library.
- If your device is not charged and you still come to the library, you will be sent back to class to charge your device.
SCHEDULE A TIME WITH THE STS IF:
- Your device is running slow
- Your keys are sticking
- Hinges are missing or other non-emergency physical damage
- A link isn’t working
- You have a fully charged computer at the beginning of the day, but the charge doesn’t last the entire day.
- Sticker Re-print
- Google Chrome isn’t installed
- Anything else that could be deemed as non-emergency.
COME DIRECTLY TO THE LIBRARY IF:
- Broken Screen
- Major physical damage that makes your device non-functional
- Completely non-functional device
- Device is not turning on AFTER you checked your battery status.
Device Acceptable Use Agreement
The device Acceptable use agreement is a document that both the parent and the student need to sign if they are going to use a device from the Davis School District. If this document is not signed, a device will not be issued.
How to sign:
- Log into the MyDSD parent account
- Click on “You have documents that need your attention”
- Find the “Parent Secondary Acceptable Use Agreement”
- A signature is required for each student. Click “Signature required” read the agreement and then click to sign at the bottom.
Changing Passwords
All 7th graders need to have their passwords changed before the school year begins. All 8th and 9th graders will be required to update their passwords throughout the year.
How to change Passwords
- Log into the MyDSD parent account
- Click on your student.
- Click “Reset Student Passwords” on the bottom right of the screen
- You need to then verify your parent password for MyDSD
- Click “Change Password” next to all of your students to re-set their password for the year.
Device Protection
Device Protection is something that can be purchased for $25 through MyDSD. The protection is a limited liability protection that covers damage that might occur while the device is being used by the student.
How to purchase Device Protection
- Log into the MyDSD parent account
- Click on “payments” at the top of the screen
- Choose “Pay for Fees/Lunch” from the drop down menu
- Choose “Optional Fees”
- Find “device protection plan” and click “add” to purchase the protection for your device.
Before School Starts
Smart things to do before school starts:

- Plug in your laptop, turn it on, connect to your Wi-Fi.
- Log in with your username and Password. Ex: 27jsmith (year graduating, first initial, last name)
- If you do not know your password, you can change it in mydsd (this must be done by 7th Graders)
- HOW TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD:
- Parents log into mydsd
- Click on your student
- On the right side of your screen you will see a link to “reset student password”
- You will verify your password
- It will give you a list of your students. You can change their passwords here.
- Ensure that you can log into the following:
- Canvas
- https://www.davis.k12.ut.us/other/canvas-login. You will use your email address and password.
- Summit
- https://www.summitlearning.org/. Make sure that you log in using “one drive” You will use your email address and password.
- Canvas
- Log off of your computer and charge overnight to ensure that necessary updates will happen.
- To ensure your device receives all critical updates and continues to function properly EACH NIGHT:
- LOG OUT or re-start your computer (simply closing the lid does not log you out of your computer)
- Wait for the log in screen, then CLOSE THE LID (waiting for the login screen before closing the lid will reduce subsequent login issues)
- PLUG IN to charge very night.
- To ensure your device receives all critical updates and continues to function properly EACH NIGHT:
Important Information and Expectations
Your student laptop is designed for web-based computing. It is for school use only, and should not be used for gaming or other personal purposes.
- Student laptops will only run programs installed remotely by the district. (such as chrome or office) If you would like to have other programs downloaded, you can search for the “Company portal” client on the task bar. Other installers and apps will not run and should not be installed on your computer.
- Local hard drive storage is limited. Desktop and document folders will sync with your school one drive. Please make sure that you are saving all of your files to your One Drive account.
- Your student laptop is a low-power device.
- Running several programs simultaneously will decrease performance.
- Opening a large number of browser tabs will decrease performance.
- RESTART REGULARLY to improve performance reliability
- Your student laptop is the property of Davis School District
- Use is subject to compliance with the District Acceptable Use Policy Agreement.
- You are responsible for loss, theft, or damage to your device.
- An optional device protection plan is available to purchase on my DSD.
- Device protection must be purchased within two weeks of receiving your laptop.
Device is Running Slow
If your device is running slow, this is usually because your computer needs to have updates. To ensure that your computer has all of the updates:
- Log off of your computer. (shutting the screen ISN’T logging off)
- Make sure that your device is powered on
- Device needs to be connected to the internet
- Charge your computer overnight with the lid closed
